If you drive your bicycle from bay of Karbuni towards the western coast of the island, an astonishing view to the sea will appear. When specific winds bring extremely bright weather conditions, the view can spread all the way to the coast of Italia. It’s not strange that the area you are about to cycle in is called Potirna; among archaeological findings from Roman times there is a monument to Venus Pelagia. You are now driving through the lands of Roman country villas; olive trees that surround you pleased the eyes, hands and palates of the ancient Romans, as well as their descendents.
But as we all know it from physics, nothing comes to an end, everything changes. The best evidence for that is a small church above the main path. Its altar keeps a piece of antique sarcophagus, and its patron saint, Georges the dragon killer, succeeded like very few movement before to unite the east and west, the old beliefs and christianity.
Tri Porte/luke (Three ports) is a bay that follows and which hides another small church. Actually, during most of your cyclist tour around the county of Blato, you could visit dozens of churches which are protectors of the area in which they were built. They also kept its mythical glow, for which they belong to our cultural heritage and they are still places for religious ceremonies and processions.
If you are a lover of wide horizons (and in shape), you should ride from Potirna to the top of the Hum hill from which (if weather conditions allow you) you can see the great part of the island of Korula, as well as the surrounding islands and a part of Pelješac peninsula. On the top of the hill is also a Hum fortress, with a story of its own…
