In Blato and on the hills and fields surrounding the town, there is a number of small old churches that are being used mostly during local religious processions.
Some of the churches date from 12. century, but most of them are being mentioned in medieval and early modern ages, and they have been maintained during the course of history, which changed their style a little bit. The churches have also an archeological value, because a number of researches indicate that underneath and around some of the churches lay Roman buildings and settlements.

Each church tells a story of its own, and they are mostly named after saints - Saint Georges’ church (Crkva svetog Jurja), Saint Mark’s church (Crkva svetog Marka) etc. They are mostly situated on small roads (sometimes only accessible by foot) that pass throught the county of Blato and on top of the hills. A free brochure at the tourist office shows paths to some of them, as the churches are “check-points” in walking routes around the county.

Even that these locations are sometimes hard to find and even they sometimes seem forgotten, they are indeed a grand monument of human existence in these lands.
